The coaches
corner is designed to allow Foothills coaches access to new coaching
methodologies, training activities, interesting video clips and all other
forms of coaches education. It is our job as coaches to make the players
experience at Foothills one of fun and learning while also trying to
strengthen our International game. As we can see from the last Olympic
games our women's teams are still physically superior but not as
technically proficient as the International counterparts (Brazil, Japan,
North Korea). On the men's side of soccer there are drastic improvements
that need to be made and almost all of them can be addressed at the grass
roots of soccer.
We have all
heard the term, “The game is the best teacher” but I think we are losing
site of what this actually means. There are too many useless tournaments
and meaningless games taking away from the quality of training sessions
which could allow players the time to become more technical and creative.
Placing players in a competitive environment with sideline pressure from
parents, coaches and the state of the team revolving around the golden
trophy is only producing average robotic players instead of cognitive
creative players that can solve the problems of the game on their own. We
need to be designing training sessions that are game like activities that
show the visual cues of when players should apply different techniques
under pressure in a given situation (tactical application of technique) and
have the most impact on the game.
I will be
working on a coaching library in the form of books, DVD's, videotapes and
articles that coaches can access through the coaches corner. Coaches that
would like to make use of any of these items will have the ability
of checking them out, just like a library, and then returning them to me.
If there are other coaches within the club that would like to generously
offer their materials for coaches to have access to please feel free to
give me the information about the materials so that I can post it to the
coaches corner.
Thanks
again for all your hard work, remember the kid's are worth it.
